Maurizio Zanella

Founder & President

Ca’ del Bosco
Franciacorta, Italy

Maurizio Zanella was born in 1956. He studied agriculture and his introduction to the world of wine came in the Sixties, when his mother acquired a small hillside property called “Ca’ del Bosc”. (House in the Woods) Inspired by a trip to France’s most storied wine regions (including Burgundy and Bordeaux, among them Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, in particular) he created Ca’ del Bosco in 1968.

Zanella is an extensively-traveled wine cosmopolitan who has put into practice in his native Franciacorta what he learned in France, particularly Burgundy and Bordeaux. Today the winery is known around the world as a benchmark producer of Franciacortas.

Ca’ del Bosco’s preeminence has been driven by Zanella’s passionate enthusiasm. In the early Seventies, he embraced his artistic creativity and became one of the leading figures in Italy’s wine renaissance by transforming what was a house in a chestnut forest into one of the country’s most modern wineries. Each step of the winery’s viticultural and winemaking process is based on a relentless commitment to excellence, and Ca’ del Bosco has strict prerequisites for the wines to achieve the ultimate in balance and perfect harmony. The winery’s state-of-the-art cellar, unique in Franciacorta, allows the winemaking team to produce the best wines possible and of the highest quality. Led by Zanella’s passion to produce world-class wines from the Franciacorta region, his dedication to the appellation is unsurpassed, as is his tireless dedication to the promotion of the appellation’s wines worldwide, as he also served as President of the Consorzio per la Tutela del Franciacorta from 2009-2015.

Ca’ del Bosco’s wines have collectively earned 41 of the coveted “Tre Bicchieri” awards by Italy’s preeminent wine magazine, Gambero Rosso, since 1998, the second-highest awarded winery in history by the publication. In addition, Gambero Rosso named the winery’s Ca’ del Bosco Vintage Selection Dosage Zero Noir Riserva 2006 (Franciacorta Riserva DOCG) Bollicine dell’Anno (Sparkling Wine of the Year) in 2016.
